Getting ready for our New Year’s Day Brunch

I’ve been cleaning like a mad woman. This is because on New Year’s Day we’ll be having lots of people over for our annual brunch—and rather than let guests see how we really live, I’d much rather they see how we live after a week-long cleaning marathon.

Hopefully I’ll be back online in time for the Monday Morning Mojo, but we’ll see.

In the meantime, happy new year to everyone! I was going to provide Abba’s “Happy New Year” song, but I like this song of theirs so much better, so here you go (link for feedreaders):

Blue eye shadow alert! Aw, what the heck. Let’s make this an Abba marathon:

The Winner Takes It All
Take a Chance on Me
Fernando
Knowing Me, Knowing You
Super Trouper
Chiquitita

  1. Happy New Year, Bonnie. I’m glad I did my marathon cleaning before Christmas (of course, it needs it again) and that we’re NOT having people over! It can stay dirty a bit longer…as long as the health department doesn’t decide to come and shut me down ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I too only seem to host parties after a huge clean-up. We’ve spent most of this week cleaning up after a painting crew and renovating the house but are finally geeting organized and claned up (drywall dust is awful!). My reward is to go out and buy new curtains for what feels like a new place!

  3. Oh, god. ABBA. Cleaning. Brunch. And then there’s Mojo…

You’re a brave soul, Bonnie. Have a fab New Year’s celebration!

  4. Happy New Year!

Is Mojo providing the entertainment for the new years day brunch?

  5. Happy New Year, Bonnie. May Mojo resolve to behave this year?

Enjoy the brunch and the fun.

Thanks for firing up the Abba fetish again. Now where are my albums residing? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. I am SOOOOO not admitting how many ABBA turns are lurking on my iTunes.

Happy New Year to you and yours, Bonnie. And may all your guests enjoy all the sparkly clean shiny at your house.

    *mumble, mumble, hiss, hiss*

Yes, Previewer, Happy New Year to you, too.

  7. Happy New Year, Bonnie! I had a cleaning marathon [well, what passes for one with me] yesterday before having folks over to lunch. Simi immediately goes to the window when the cleaning stuff comes out. She must think, “She’s cleaning – who’s coming?”!

  8. Happy New Year, Bernita!

And you, too, Steve. I’m a lackadaisical housekeeper but when I clean up, I clean EVERYTHING!

Dear Judy, I save marathon cleanings for just before the big event, because it gets dirty/cluttered again so fast!

Heather, after I clean it DOES feel like a new place. I did a lot of repair work, too. Why don’t I just do this stuff throughout the year? I guess I need a deadline.

Ms. Karen, I believe Mojo is resolved to own the floral chair beside the living room window. We’re in a sort of detente about it: if I don’t look him square in the eye when he’s sitting in the chair, he can stay. But if I stare him down, he knows he better jump off.

Angie, I think I’m going to have to put a sign up: “The bulldog won’t bite, but he is very stinky. Pet at your own risk.”

Groovy, I guess nobody can hear the music, because the mushroom cloud of Pine-Sol has knocked everyone unconscious.

Mediaguy, he will, in an indirect sort of way. When somebody asks what Hubby is barbecuing, I’m prepared to say, “English bulldog.” Won’t that be fun?

Kristen, let’s hear it for ABBA! Tell Queen Burrito that Mojo has discovered the addictive propensities of the laser dots. Now he even chases the reflection his dog tag makes!

Michelle, isn’t the music video for that song cute? The way the gals keep winking at the camera! I love the cheese!

Yay, MG, I knew you would love ABBA. “Dancing Queen” and “Fernando” are my favorites.

Hey, there, Michelle, “Super Trouper” is a good one, too. I couldn’t stop playing it in my head last night.

Welshcakes, whenever my neighbor Didi comes over and sees the house is clean, she says, “Who’s coming over?” I am so transparent!

  9. Okay. Okay. I confess …I LOVED the Abba.

Hope you are having a terrific time at your brunch.

    Happy New Year Bonnie!
